Bathroom Lighting Installation That's Designed, Not Just Installed

Pro Bathroom Remodeling plans and installs lighting for San Bernardino homeowners tired of mirror shadows, one dim ceiling fixture or a dark shower. Our bathroom lighting installation covers vanity sconces, LED mirrors, recessed lights, wet-rated shower lights, accent lighting and dimmers. We design the layout first, then our licensed in-house crew handles wiring, permits and fixtures, as a standalone upgrade or part of a larger remodel.

Bad Bathroom Lighting Is a Design Problem Not a Bulb Problem

A single overhead fixture casts shadows under your eyes and chin at the mirror. A brighter bulb won't fix that, because the issue is where the light comes from. Many older San Bernardino homes still have one ceiling box and no exhaust fan. Good bathroom lighting layers three types:

• Task lighting at the vanity: sconces or a backlit mirror that light your face evenly.

• Ambient light from the ceiling: recessed lights that fill the room without glare.

• Accent lighting for mood and detail: niche, toe-kick or cove lights that double as a night light.

Types of Bathroom Lighting We Install

Most bathrooms need two or three of these working together.

Two vertical sconces beside a mirror over a dark double vanity

Vanity Lighting

Vanity lighting is the task layer, and it matters most. Sconces on both sides of the mirror, near face height, light your face with almost no shadows. A bar light above suits narrow walls. Replacing the cabinet too? We center the boxes on your new vanity installation.

Backlit & LED Mirrors

An LED mirror puts light right on your face and frees the wall from separate fixtures. Hardwired models need a junction box set behind the mirror, so we plan the placement early. Many include dimming, adjustable color temperature or a built-in defogger for steamy mornings.

Recessed ceiling lights over a burgundy vanity and glass shower

Recessed Ceiling Lights

Recessed lights, often called can lights, give the room even ambient light. Spacing matters: too few leave dark corners, and one directly over the mirror repeats the old shadow problem. Slim LED wafer lights need little ceiling depth, which helps in older homes with tight attic access.

Walk-in shower with wet-rated recessed light and dark tile walls

Shower & Wet-Zone Lighting

Any light inside the shower or within reach of spray must be wet-rated, with a sealed trim and lens that keeps water out. We aim it at the walls and niche, away from your eyes. If you're planning a shower remodel, that's the best time to add it.

Accent & Niche Lighting

Accent lighting adds depth and makes tile and texture stand out. Popular options are LED strips inside a shower niche, toe-kick lights under a floating vanity and cove lighting along the ceiling. On a low setting, they also work as a soft night light.

Bathroom dimmer switches beside a navy vanity

Dimmers & Smart Controls

Dimmers let one room handle a bright morning routine and a relaxing evening bath. The dimmer must match the LED driver, or you get flicker and buzzing. We also install vacancy sensors and smart switches that work with Alexa or Google Home.

Choosing Color Temperature: 2700K, 3500K or 5000K

Color temperature, measured in Kelvin (K), describes how warm or cool white light looks. Brightness is measured separately, in lumens.

  • 2700K warm: a soft, relaxing glow that can make skin look slightly yellow at the mirror.
  • 3500K neutral: a clean middle ground many homeowners pick for the vanity because makeup looks natural.
  • 5000K cool: crisp daylight-style light that can feel clinical in a small bathroom at night.

Use one color temperature across the room, and choose a higher CRI (color rendering index) at the mirror for truer skin tones. Still picking a look? Start with our bathroom style ideas.

Bathroom Lighting Safety: Wet-Rated Fixtures, Permits and Title 24

A bathroom mixes electricity, steam and water, so fixture ratings and permits matter.

Damp-Rated vs Wet-Rated Bathroom Fixtures

Damp-rated fixtures handle humidity and steam, so they suit vanity sconces and ceiling lights away from spray. Wet-rated fixtures are built for direct water contact, which you need inside the shower or over a tub. Some fixtures also call for GFCI protection, and we wire to each fixture's listing.

Electrical Permits and California Title 24

Swapping a fixture on an existing box is usually simple. Adding recessed lights, moving boxes or running a new circuit usually needs an electrical permit, which we pull for you. California's Title 24 energy code also sets efficiency and control rules for home lighting .

Pair Bathroom Lighting With a Quiet Exhaust Fan

Lighting and ventilation share the ceiling, so plan them together. A properly sized exhaust fan clears steam, stops mirror fog and helps prevent peeling paint and mildew. Quiet fans (low sone rating) get used more. A fan-light combo suits older homes that only have a window.

How Bathroom Lighting Installation Works

Most standalone lighting upgrades take 1 to 2 days on site.

Consultation and Lighting Goals

We visit your home, check the mirror, ceiling, shower and existing wiring, and ask how you use the room. Makeup, shaving and a long evening soak each need different light.

Lighting Plan and Itemized Quote

An interior designer maps the three layers, fixture positions, color temperature and switches. Your quote lists fixtures, wiring and labor separately, so nothing shows up later as a surprise on the final bill.

Permits, Wiring and Electrical Prep

We pull any required permit, then run new wiring, set boxes and add dimmer or sensor switches. Working from the attic where possible keeps ceiling openings small and easy to close.

Fixture Installation

Our in-house crew mounts every fixture level and centered, seals wet-zone trims and connects the LED mirror, fan or accent strips. The same crew stays on your job from start to finish.

Testing Every Light and Dimmer

We test every circuit and dimmer for flicker, adjust the aim of recessed lights and show you how the controls work. If the permit needs a final inspection, we schedule it.

What Affects a Bathroom Lighting Installation Estimate?

Fixture count, new wiring, dimmers, mirror lighting, and ventilation upgrades determine the work required. We plan fixture locations and discuss electrical requirements before providing an estimate. See the bathroom remodel cost guide for general planning.
